Weather alert radios are important devices to have in every home simply because this device can not only on a daily basis give you weather information, it can give you the daily forecast or hourly weather conditions, but the best part about this is that this will alert you directly when the national weather service issues warnings for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, flash floods, and many other things. In fact most of these radios are programmable, so you can select which county you want to get the warnings for. You can get it just for the county you live in, or for surrounding counties.

We feel that weather radios are just as important as having a smoke detector in your house. Because the chances of having a severe thunderstorm or flash flood anywhere in your area here in the state of Illinois are pretty high. And these weather alert radios will alert immediately upon reception of a warning from the weather service. In fact, when we issue a warning it only takes a couple of seconds for this alert to go off.

The nice thing about the alert is that you can program it, so that after the alert goes off you immediately hear the voice of the broadcast telling you what the warning is for, and on many of these models it will scroll across the screen as to what type of warning has been issued.

It's important to have these in homes because in many areas outdoor warning sirens can't be heard inside homes. Not every community has sirens, and even the ones that do it's difficult to hear them inside when you've got the windows down, or the air conditioner running during the warmer parts of the season. So having one of these in your home, or even a few of them in different parts of the house, can get you that alert.

There have been many cases right here in the Midwest where these weather alarm radios have alerted people to tornadoes that are approaching in the middle of the night and have woke them up and they were able to seek shelter and ultimately saved their lives.

Weather alert radios can be purchased at electronics stores and most department stores have them, and there's even a few pharmacies around that are selling these. They are very affordable. This model that I am showing you here (a Midland weather alert radio) is typically for sale for about $30, and when you consider the fact that you need to have smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in your home, spending $30 on something that could save your life is very important.

They have other models that range a little higher in price that you can do much more programming with and actually pick the types of warnings that you want to be alerted for.
